Prayer Shawls

Prayer Shawls

Crafters create these homemade items as a labor of love for unknown recipients, praying as they knit, crochet or quilt them. They are then given to people needing comfort and prayer support in hospitals, nursing homes and neighborhoods. These shawls and blankets become powerful symbols and reminders of the love and prayers that surround those who are hurting.

As The Prayer Shawl Ministry Team has almost achieved it’s one year anniversary. The team continues to grow. It began with the love of Knitting and Crocheting and has combined into the prayerful ministry that reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace. The shawls begin with a prayer, and prayers are offered up as the shawl is being created. The shawls that are completed are blessed with prayers and passed on to those in need. The blessing is rippled from the person who created to the person who receives the embrace of a sheltering and mothering God.

If you are experienced or want to learn how to create these shawls thru a basic knitting and crocheting stitch, we would love to hear from you. The Team meets the First Tuesday of every month, from 6:30 – 8:30pm. We are also looking for donations, each shawl takes approximately 3 – 4 skeins of yarn, so if you have yarn laying around or would like to donate, please leave at the Church receptionist desk. To be a part of this powerful ministry or to get more information please contact Lori Sandell at sandellfour@hotmail.com To learn about prayer shawl ministry you can go to www.shawlministry.com.

“You created every part of me, knitting me in my Mother’s womb. For such handiwork, I praise you. Awesome this great wonder”  Psalm 139: 13 - 14

Women Getting Together
Kings Sisters
Kings Sisters is a group of retired and semi-retired women of the church. We meet on the second Thursday of each month. Some months, especially in winter, we meet at the church for lunch and a program, but frequently we go on tours or see exhibits, always with lunch at a nearby restaurant. Some activities we have done in the past include Como Conservatory visit, tour of St. Paul Cathedral, trolley ride of Stillwater, teas at Cedarhurst Mansion and Phipps Theater, and talks on travel, crafts, charitable organizations, and laughter for health.

Future plans include (March 2010) lunch at the church with guest speaker, Mama Tesha, founder of St. Margaret's Academy in Arusha Tanzania, East Africa. Lunch in April with destination or speaker to be determaned, and tea at a teahouse in May. If you are newly retired, glose to it or just want to meet women with similar interests, this is a great group for you. There is no membership--just come as you are able, have a good time and enjoy great food.

Those who love deeply never grow old; they may die of old age, but they die young. . . . . . . . . . Dorothy Canfield Fisher
